Unable to install Chatterer

Recommended Posts

Does anyone have any suggestions for installing Chatterer?

I only have MIRROR (a mod for new light parts) installed. Everything else is vanilla.

I tried dumping Chatterer directly in Game Data but of course that doesn't work. (it never has, not even with other games and mods, such as Skyrim)

I tried putting it in all the appropriate subfolders but Chatterer has a Textures folder that the vanilla game does not. Any idea where the Textures folder should go?

I would love to use Cursed, but Cursed doesn't recognize KSP... at all. It just doesn't exist to Cursed. Yes all the mods are there and available, but when I try to use Cursed to install it just treats it as an unidentified file and does nothing.

Any suggestions at all would be appreciated...

Actually, just putting the extracted folder in your GameData should just work. If that hasn't, a precise description of what you did (screenshots of your GameData are helpful) and startup logs will help narrow down what's wrong. Check the sticky posts in this forum for how to get as much useful info as possible.

You might also want to check out mod managers. I use CKAN all the time, but there's a few other KSP-specific managers in the tools and applications subforum.

In the archive you downloaded there is a directory called GameData.

Most people just drag and drop this directory into their KSP folder, where the GameData folder is kept.

So look in the main KSP directory. See the GameData directory. Open the Archive with the MOD inside and find the GameData directory. Grab it and drag it into the same directory in which KSP hold it's GameData folder.

You will be asked if you want to overwrite stuff. Be really trusting and say yes to everything.

And you are done.

Start KSP in the same way as usual.

Some MODS require other MODS to be installed to function at their best so make sure that you read the blurb about the MOD.

The mod structure is as follows:

- GameData folder. This folder contains all mods

- ModName Folder. This folder is contained in the mod (After unzipping) and is a self contained unit. All subfolders of this folder should remain as they are and do not require movement..

Unzip the mod to another location besides the game. Then copy the Modname Folder and paste it into the GameData Folder.

Then start up your game. should work fine.

The end result should look like this:

- GameData\Modname\(subfolders)

If you attempt to unzip the mod in the Gamedata folder you may end up with:

- GameData\GameData\ModName...

Or even something like:

- GameData\Modnameversion\GameData\Modname.

These would be wrong. Take a look at the Squad Folder, and you will see what I mean. GameData\Squad works just like a mod...

Hope that helps.

I checked my chatterer download so I could see exactly what was included. In the download there is a GameData folder. If you copy this into your KSP_win folder (or if you have steam, in the steam location for the game) it will merge into the existing gamedata folder.

OR

you can also open the GameData folder in the download, and you will find a folder called "Chatterer"

You can copy this folder into the GameData folder, and this will install the mod also.

Hope this helps. :)

Thank you all so much for the replies!

I think I solved it! So in the game data folder is the subfolder "Squad". I was putting things in the squad folder and that seemed to do nothing.

My Kerbals are all over the airwaves now. very nice atmospheric mod :)

TL;DR - I was putting it in the wrong folder :)

Thanks again all :)
