The altitude and general achievements of my previous attempt were very meager. The capsule hardly rose above the point where the catapult would reach.

Let's try something else. I call it Project X-Bow!

Two capsules for balance. Only one is kerbed.

A total of 219 meters upwards. Still a couple kilometers short of orbit but much better than the catapult!

You should try this with KAS winches. Compound bow, anyone?

While a compound bow would be awesome, I think building the pulleys would be hard. But I guess you could fake the pulleys with KAS winches....

With a recurve bow they are made out of layers of wood, so could you try having layers of girders (with many struts of course) and see if you can get a stronger bow like that? I suspect that it will probably just snap, but it might work.
