Hotkey for fine tuning maneuver nodes

Recommended Posts

Ultimately I just want to be able to see how close of an encounter I'll get WHILE I'm adjusting the maneuver. I'm sure everyone is tired of mousing back and forth between maneuver nodes and encounter nodes in this situation9zgi8nf.png:

it would be nice if this was integrated into precise-node when an object is targeted.

At least there could be something that would 'remember' the current node configuration and the ability to revert it back to the stored values. I can find an 'ok' trajectory but frequently later alterations in trying to get it better ruin the work and I have to start over. What I suggest is to have a hotkey for 'Store the maneuver node' and get it back if I clumsily ruin it.

Standard response - if the OP wants the functionality now they can install the PreciseNode that contains the hotkeys they want

This is such a basic requirement that it should be part of the stock game.

I haven't been able to get that to work for closest approach markers, only for Ap/Pe.

yeah, it only works for Ap/Pe markers. (why kinda says something bad about the underlying implementation, ie they are separately coded and not inherited from a common class)

Also, a confirmation about maneuver node deletion would be a nice touch.

That could also get annoying though. I'd rather have an edit-undo type functionality that could restore the last deleted node if I wanted, rather than being asked each time if I'm sure I want to delete it. I often just create a quick very rough node to get a general idea of a heading and then delete it right away and I also delete nodes during burns (so I can switch to seeing the live closest-sep-markers, rather than the node projected ones) and having an "are you sure" dialog whenever I delete one would annoy me.

In addition to what OP wants I'd also like keyboard control of nodes. When a node is open for editing the WASD (or IJKL) keys should map to normal/anti-normal, radial/anti-radial and shift/ctrl to pro/retro and caps should toggle a fine adjustment mode from the keyboard input. I know, you can use the mousewheel to make fine adjustments on node controls, but that is still pretty fiddly.
