Can water bugs crawl up wooden beds?

Well i have just had an encounter with another water bug threw an empty bottle at it, didn\'t kill it. It ran, but I do not want to be bitten again. Is it possible for it to crawl up a straight up leg. Can the bug crawl up it? Or how can I keep the bug from biting me?

Water bug isn\'t a specific bug. You\'re going to have to narrow it down to a species for us.

I can\'t narrow down the species. I think it was inbetween a backswimmer and a Giant water bug...
