[cb_co] VTOL f35 by clown_baby on Sketchfab ***Some parts are missing due to the limitations of the render***

Clown_baby CO. F-35 lightning. This is the SVTOL f35b version capable of vertical take off and landing. I won't lie it isn't the fastest cat on the block, but the basic engine is pretty underpowered these days. It's still incredibly fun to fly, and can maintain a very stable hover.

I haven't figured out how to make the front engine doors yet, but hopefully those will come with further updates. I also plan to release the fully stock F-35a with no VTOL capabilities.

Thanks for checking it out.

HotKeys:

1) Horizontal Engine

2) Vertical Engine

3) Both Engines

4) Move Rear Engine Horizontal

5) Move Rear Engine Vertical

6) Extend "VTOL Intake" (Airbrake)

7) Retract "VTOL Intake"

8) Extend Flaps

VTOL Transition

1) Move engine horizontal (hotkey 4)

2) Close Intake (hotkey 7)

3) As the craft pitches upward toggle vertical engine (hotkey 2)

4) The rear engine is limited at 75.5 thrust to maintain hover. Return the limit to 100% for full thrust

MODS Required

Infernal Robotics - Tweakscale is not required for this craft

Very cool. I like how you used the airbrake like the real-life F-35B's dorsal intake door.

Thanks a lot. That was actually the inspiration for the whole thing. As soon as I realized that looked exactly like the intake door I knew I had to build one.

I just wish I could find a way to make stock engine doors

short mk 2 cargo bay with the doors upwards?

Yeah I thought of this. I assume you mean upside down though as the engine is on the bottom. That would work but then there's no hole for the intake door to cover on top, and I think that looks really cool.

Flaps would work as doors but they don't extend far enough.

oh i meant the doors will open upwards so to create the engine doors and the engine will stick out the bottom. you can decorate it with stuff inside or clip a tank to make it look whole

Cool plane, i agree with elad about the mk2 bay, but yeah im trying to think of alternatives

I agree with both of you that that would look cool, I just think the airbrake perfectly replicates the actual door.

Nice plane. I've always thought the F-35 is cool, but it's shame that they decided to use it for Close Air Support. I was told that the planes are very fragile, unlike the magnificent A-10, and they never will be able to carry the big tank busting cannon that A-10s feature. Oh well, that won't stop me from trying this craft out.

The F-35 is a huge joke in real life. Can't turn... Can't climb... Can't dogfight... Outrageously expensive

It's stealth is the only thing it can go on. But its stealth technology is only designed for high frequency radars and advances in detection might make it and the F-22's stealth capabilities obsolete by 2020+

That doesn't mean I don't like this replica!

Yeah this one doesn't perform super well either. I'm working on trying to get the IR hinge to vector the engine to increase the turning/climbing. However IR no longer continues to "return to center" until you toggle it off, so it might be impossible.

The f35c won't have the VTOL capabilities and I'll use the turbojet engine, so that can be the dogfighter. I know these things don't perform well in real life and are crazy expensive, but I still think they look awesome.

Not to mention the fact that if the plane so much as gets struck by lightning, it's toast. They have to build special enclosures to protect it from the weather.

How ironic, the Lightning is in danger from lightning.

I had this problem with IR when I used it a long time ago. I think there is a mod called IR sequencer where you can sequence many actions from one key. Perhaps you could use that to make a system where it returns to center after moving.

Haha I kind of thought you were joking this is so rediculus.

Thanks for the heads up. I'll look into it.

Started the f35c. Or is it the a? I dont know. It's smaller, faster, and completely stock without VTOL.

The f35c.

Yay Navy version. :)

The C model is the Navy Carrier based variant, the A model is the Air Force's ground based variant. The C model has larger wings and horizontal stabilizers to better facilitate taking off and landing on a Carrier as well as beefed up landing gear (bigger, thicker, stronger),probe and drogue refueling, and an arresting hook. The A model has none of those things and has an integrated gun.

Oh well it turns out I'm building the a version. I'm having trouble though. Performing well in dogfights is important to me. The f22 and f16 are both super fast and handle well, while still looking exactly how I want them too.

However, in order to make the f-35 look like the real thing, I have to place wing parts in ways that create an immense amount of drag on the craft, slowing it way down.

This is why I think lift should be adjustable.
