How to create struts with KIS/KAS?

Hi

I install these orange attachment points with the drill, that works fine, but often when I try to link these, I get the error message "Max angle or length reached, cannot attach" (or something like that). Even when there is nothing in the way and the distance is just a couple of meters apart.

is there a tutorial on youtube or any other tutorial as to how to connect struts in space?

Which attachment point are you using, the round one with the handle or the rectangular one with the triangular bit sticking up? The round one is used to connect pipes, and only works when the two attachment points are facing approximately towards each other.

The triangle one. I know that the round ones are for pipes for liquids. That works. But I have problems with the triangle ones for fix struts (forgot the name of it)

Ah, yes. There are some limits to the angles, as you found out. I tend to restrict them to less than 45* off of straight.

You didn't mention if you were trying to connect them to different parts on the same ship or to two different ships. The KAS struts can only be attached to parts that the game identifies as the same ship. This includes ships connected via docking ports or if you have connected the KAS fuel transfer pipes first.

You will not be able to connect struts between two completely disconnected ships at all.

That... is a good point that I had forgotten. Yeah, if nothing else, rope the two ships together with a winch first.

No, I tried to connect on the same ship.

I guess it's the angle problem - will try that out now

Yeah, the angle isn't as forgiving as you might think. The two strut endpoints need to be 'facing' each other more or less.
