Increase the heat tolerance for the shrouded ladders.

Recommended Posts

Despite the ladders having the same heat tolerance as most of my spaceplane's other parts, the wings for example, at 2000 degrees Kelvin (Is that the unit of measurement?), they ALWAYS explode on reentry. This is super annoying when it's the only thing that doesn't survive on a spaceplane that you want to be 100% reuseable, and iirc the shrouded ladders have the same heat tolerance as the static ones, which doesn't make a lot of sense to me.

Kelvin is the SI base unit for temperature. It has the same unit magnitude as a degree celsius but starts at absolute zero.

Agree about shrouded ladder heat tolerance, they shouldn't burn up unless the vessel burns up. Same with most nosecone parts, if you want a nosecone with >2000K tolerance you have to make it out of a fairing.

100% agree. For physics purposes, retractable parts should be considered to be flush with the surface. No drag, and no more heat than the parent.

This also should apply to folded solar panels, landing gear, and radial chutes. They have to sit outside so we can see and interact with them, but that need shouldn't translate into heat and drag.

I'm almost in complete agreement with Laie. I don't know if having a panel that can open and close to shield the parts inside should have zero effect on airflow, but there should be a dramatic difference between parts that fold away and those that just sit on the outside.
