Influence of reputation on game?

Yup. The contracts get better as the rep rises.

Though I wish it didn't work like that. Sometimes when you're low on rep and already landed on other planets it completely doesn't care and gives you part testing missions and nothing else.

On the other end, I have lots of rep and keep getting missions for other planets(tourists, ore from one to another, etc), whereas my first interplanetary mission is still a good 150 days away from entering my first SOI outside the Kerbin SOI aside from Kerbol.

It is nice that they have confidence in me, but being good at bringing tourists along on rescue missions does not mean I am prepared to take them to Eve...

Repuation is also used to determine if you get the Explore X place contracts. Which are one time contracts you can miss forever if you visited X place before they pop up. There are also smaller contracts that never expire that are attached to the EExplore Contracts. But, the thing that is diffrent about them is the expire at some point if you don't accept them. And they usually appear before the explore contract. Well the Fly By X place pops up. Then you get the Orbit followed by Return from orbit. Then land contract. Which can be done with one craft except for the Land part. Unless it was a 2 part craft.

Reputation has extremely ambiguous impacts on the game. I only know the following because of all the time I spend dealing with the internals of career mode due to working on BTSM (and it still took me a long time to figure out what the heck it was really doing despite that):

It affects the number of contracts you receive at each prestige level. The prestige level of contracts is indicated by the little stars next to the contract description.

So, with zero reputation, you might get (these numbers aren't accurate, I'm just guestimating them based on what I remember), 6 Trivial contracts at a time (1 star). At 50 reputation you might get 3 Trivial (1 star), 2 Significant (2 Star), and 1 Exceptional (3 Star).

As far as I know, that's it. Once I figured out how it all worked, I decided to just rip it out entirely for my mod due to its ambiguous and largely irrelevant nature. The only real impact I've really seen it have on the game is to cause blockages in the contract queue that wind up feeling like bugs (like the thing above mentioned about missing explore body contracts) because nobody really understands how the thing works unless they dig into the underlying systems.
