Apollo 18

All issues with the rather silly story aside (I mean, a Saturn V launch for a sattelite? Pfft), did anyone else really enjoy the sets and overall look of the movie? While I felt that the LM interior seemed a bit larger than it actually was, I was still impressed overall with how realistic it all looked. And with the style they applied to the scenes to make it resemble old Apollo footage was a really nice touch.

And even the LK lander was pretty cool to look at, even if it made no sense for the Russians to be able to get to the Moon without the US noticing.

So you're ok with the idea that there's rock spiders on the moon. But retrieving the video footage is a stretch?

I never said it was the only thing that bothered me about the film, just one of many points. I was willing to buy into the Moon Crabs or Moon Spiders as a plot device. Recovering lost footage from a nearly sub-orbital trajectory? Or from the surface of the Moon? From a craft that had the same Moon Crabs on it? This would be the perfect set up for a sequel.

"Apollo 19: Invasion of the Moon Crabs!" coming soon to a theatre near you.

As far as space horror movies go, at least from the last half century, Apollo 18 is near the middle with Alien at the top and Last Days on Mars at the bottom.

I liked it, yeah. I don't think your average horror fan would like it as much, but as someone with a weakness for Space Stuff, I really liked it. Great consistent and authentic apollo "found footage" throughout, and it was cool to see the LK on the moon. I bet there was almost the same split between CG and physical effects as in Moon (2009).

iirc one of the trailers basically spoiled the film for me but I saw it anyway.

I'd rate it on-par with Europa Report, but they are quite different.

Personally I view it that during a survey of the moon a private space agency or the chinese agency found a debris field where one shouldn't be.

So they sent a manned mission to find out what's going on and recovered the footage.

Meh, Blair Witch is rather lame (though honestly, I haven't seen either, the style being referenced seems identical) and I don't think anyone can really break the wall that this is a movie, not a documentary. The difference is that although the internet claims people actually thought Blair Witch was real because there wasn't a "internet" to help them distinguish reality from fantasy; the time for such a film has long past.

Of course, the entertainment media (a.k.a. the News) is very corrupt these days. I think it would be conceivable that someone could "gift" them a large sum of money to put some credibility behind one of those films. That, and selective soundbites can easily get a nation of fools questioning what reality is.

I really liked it, and I think space has a lot of untapped potential for horror movies. It has one of the creepiest things I've ever seen in a movie - walking around a landing site, and realizing there are footprints that aren't yours.
