Question about new Data mechanic

Does anyone happen to know the KSP API information regarding how data is handled in mobile processing labs?

I've been tinkering with the labs via the config, and even though the data storage capacity is set in the ModuleScienceLab module, the right click interface for how much data is stored appears to be part of the ModuleScienceConverter module. Since I don't want a converter on the part I'm making (and because data isn't a resource, sadly), it seems like I need to make a plugin to allow me to see how much data is stored, as well as to handle the data management. Unfortuantely I don't know the API hooks.

The current KSP API website seems out of date, and the only references to data are to the pre-1.0 mechanic. Could anyone point me in the right direction?

(Sorry if this is an unreasonably difficult request and/or I'm missing something very obvious; I'm new at this.)
