Can anyone give me a quick rundown on how/where stock contracts are generated in the KSP folders and the relationships.

I'm determined to give the community the contract mod/fix it deserves since Squad has no idea what we want.

There is a contract config file in GameData/Squad/Contracts, or something to that effect.

It lets you edit things like the number of each contract that can be generated, the reward values, and a few other values for each contract type.

But there isn't a whole lot that you can do to customize stock contracts. Parameters can be tweaked, but the problem with the contract system goes deeper than that.

I don't know what you have in mind, but Contract Configurator is your best bet for trying to improve on contracts within the existing system. Anything more would be very complicated.
