In their latest bizarre claim, conspiracy theorists say they have found a replica of one of Egypt's Great Pyramids on Mars. Citing the 'near-perfect design and shape', they argue the 'pyramid' is evidence that an ancient civilization once lived on the red planet.

It appears that the Nasa operators of Curiosity deliberately chose not to take another photo or zoom in on the pyramid. If they however did so, none of these subsequent photos were released to the general public.'

ParanormalCrucible goes further, claiming the 'near perfect design and shape' means the pyramid is: 'the result of intelligent design and certainly not a trick of light and shadow'.

I am unconvinced. I think I'll await a human inspection. Given that there are only small rocks on Mars, that thing might have been built by super intelligent ants.

The "pyramid" is actually on a 30 degree slope slope and it has a pointy shape, the shadow only makes it look like a pyramid.

My god, it's just a rock. I see nothing special about it, just like NASA, who don't think this is worthy of more pictures.

More seriously: I can go out here and find a rock similarly shaped. Certain types of rock (and crystals of course) tend to break with fairly straight and clean lines. Though curiously shaped rocks might warrant further investigation, you certainly need to find more to draw any meaningful conclusions.

It does, however, show rather well how eager some people are to jump to conclusions. It might be a fun game, however, to go into nature and see how many things you can find that could be explained in these kinds of ways

Interesting how these "conspiracy theorists" took it upon themselves to rotate the freaking enlargement of the photo so the 'pyramid' looks like its sitting on a plain somewhere. The darned thing is sticking out of the side of a hill.

Human beings see patterns where there usually are none. My daughter saw a cloud that looked just like Hello Kitty once, too. Needless to say, giant Hello Kitty didn't destroy the city like a StayPuft marshmallow man in Ghostbusters, it was a cloud.

This is a really interesting thing, it's called "a rock." Anyone who lives around lots of rocks has seen rocks that look like all kinds of things. I remember at Koh Samui, Thailand, seeing "grandpa rock," and "grandma rock." I'll leave what part of grandma and grandpa the rocks looked like up to your imagination.

I'll admit the fracturing and stratification of all those rocks is interesting. It would be nice if there was something there to scale the size of stuff.

As for pyramids... from what I'm looking at, it's not even the proper shape/dimensions for a 'pyramid'.

Oldest Overlord trick in the book - misdirection. Get public looking at "pyramind" so no notices concave column part with writing on it. (See arrow) Or Martian Lizard (top circle) peering at rover. (Now that is true curiosity.) Or broken Martian Turtle Statue (head left circle, half shell middle circle). Also note that turtle shell also has writing on it. Of course the Turtle could be sculpted from an Earth turtle since Venusians visited Earth before colonizing Mars after all the rainforests on Venus died when Nemesis passed too close. For that matter, the writing everyone is ignoring could even be Venusian. Only way to know for sure, is to compare it to the Irish Hinge Ogam found at Dighton Massachusetts along the Taunton River.
