Launch Clamp Bug, Need Help

Recommended Posts

Hmm, I wondered why I never see this problem. I'm a bit OCD with that.

However if you are still having problems there is a mod that removes the launch clamps from the game as soon as they launch. It seems like a decent bug workaround.

This occurs reliably if you have the base of a launch clamp outside the circle in the VAB.

If you position your launch clamps such that the bases are all within the circle, you should not see the launch clamps reappear during flight and strike your vehicle. There may be other causes, but every time it happens to me this is the situation which triggers it. Usually these are large rockets, as otherwise you have little reason to have clamps that far from the center (although if you offset a rocket from the center enough in the VAB it may happen.)

i make sure that my launch clamps are inside the circle at all times and today I started getting the launch clamp blowing up my rocket in flight again.

I checked to see if I was in the middle of the circle... and yup... I was. But that was when I realised something. My main launch clamp was half on the grid and half on the concrete. I've found when that happens the clamp just doesn't stick to the ground. If a clamp is all on the grid or all on the concrete then the clamp doesn't turn into a missile. I actually reproduced it a bunch of time after that.

So just use the lines in the VAB to help line up your clamps and make sure at launch that they are stuck down to grid or concrete and you will never have the dreaded wandering clamp again.
