I have thought of a new class for kerbal space program, the explorer class this is what valentina can be instead of being a pilot. the explorer class is the only one that can plant flags and can scan small chunks of a planet by walking over them or setting up a probe or something.

I don't think that a new class would be necessary to accomplish this. Valentina is a great addition to the orange-suits, and honestly unless the class idea was super-fleshed out, giving them only one real purpose (and planting flags, at that) wouldn't quite cut it. Besides, all Kerbals you put in space are explorers :sticktongue:

ya thats only an example tho it could be alot more.

yes but you can leave someone behind, that way you have to think about what people you bring along, and different people for different missions for example a expedition could have a explorer a scientist and an engineer, where if you where finding a base location you could have an explorer a pilot and an engineer.

yep but i think val seems.....empty, for example if you need a pilot you chose jeb no exepitons the only real reason to use val is if you cant use jeb

no specialized to explore like expedition type.

there would be more and arnt basically all classes like that?

maybe shes better or has more or something idk

Splitting our current capabilities more ways is a terrible way to justify adding a new class. If there is room for another class, you need to either add something new for them to do, or you need to let Kerbonauts multiclass so that they get something to make up for what you're taking away. If Jebediah was a Pilot-Explorer (gains levels as a Pilot but can also plant flags) while Valentina was a Pilot-Scientist (gains levels as a Pilot but can also restore used experiments), then there is at least some tradeoff and not a straight downgrade.

Aww, that's not true. I admit I prefer to use the original four, but I try to let all my Kerbals run the same deadly risks - err... I mean, have the same amount of fun.

I don't think a new class is needed at the moment. In the future maybe, if new features are added that aren't covered by the current classes. For now, an idea might be to have two types of pilots: space pilot and atmosphere pilot. An atmosphere pilot would be able to use SAS in atmosphere only, while a space pilot would only be able to use SAS in space. Not too fond of it though, I think pilots are fine as they are.

Plus most NASA pilots were Air Force and Navy pilots first. I know this is a game and not the real world but there should still be some reasonable similarity in my mind.

I think if life support or radiation is ever implemented there could be a medic class that decreases negative effects on the crew such as minimizing radiation damage or making snacks last longer.
I never feel less hungry, when I was at the doctor. Nevertheless I like the medic class.

"Medic" sounds too COD4-like. A more appropriate term would be "Flight Surgeon".

EDIT: In addition to dbmorpher's suggestions, I would also like to propose that Flight Surgeons could maintain (or at least reduce the rate of deterioration) of other Kerbalnauts' sanity on long-duration space missions.

Kerbals with reduced sanity would otherwise respond sluggishly to user control, refuse to EVA, have a higher chance of failing at career-specific tasks (e.g. scientists who don't provide science boosts, engineers who fail to repair broken parts, pilots who behave erratically at the controls), or in the worst-case scenario, die / kill other crewmembers / become catatonic.
