You first experience with Windows 10?

I upgraded my HP Compaq 8510p from Win 7 to Win 10 Pro x64 a couple of weeks ago - the upgrade process was fairly smooth, and all my apps, files and drivers were retained.

I did disable Wifi-sense, but most of the data collection and privacy stuff didn't bother me too much. I also didn't miss Windows Media Player, since I just use iTunes and VLC instead.

Perhaps my favourite feature so far is the Storage app, which gives a decent estimate of how much certain groups of files/folders took up hard disk space - I was able to get back at least 15GB simply by deleting temporary files and junk I didn't need. Windows Hello handled my laptop's fingerprint scanner quite nicely, too.

The one niggle I had was that back on Win 7, I had Microsoft Security Essentials installed, which has been deprecated in favour of Windows Defender. Unfortunately, Security Essentials could not be stopped or uninstalled (Windows 10 considered the uninstaller "too old" to run), which prevented Windows Defender from running in the first place. This led to a boo-boo on my part when I toyed with msconfig and tried to disable/delete Security Essentials manually, which completely broke the startup files. In the end, I had to perform a clean install to fix it, but luckily I backed up my data and MS Office product keys beforehand, and the (extremely helpful) Microsoft Answers live chat support people walked me through the process.

On the flipside, the clean install meant that I was finally able to get rid of all the unneeded services, files and junk left by the previous owner.

I'm still planning on buying a new laptop, however, since the current one cannot run even a stripped-down installation of KSP, and the cost to upgrade it to do so would have been much greater than getting a brand-new ASUS ROG machine.
