Wow, I just can't help myself.... I have 4 installs of KSP and they are all modded to the razor's edge of crashing... (even with -force-opengl , DDS converter, and ATM)...

How do make myself content with just a few mods???

I like to play with life support *(I keep waffling between TAC and USI) and that leads to MKS and Planetary Base Systems, which in turn lead me to the Tal cargo solutions, and Stork, and KAS and KIS and Pathfinder and Universal Storage and and .......... (see the picture)?

So, how do I learn to live with a few mods?

"Hi, my name's Kerbas_ad_astra..."

The most important metric that I use when picking mods is "what does this mod let me do that I can't do without it?" USI-LS, MKS, and Extraplanetary Launchpads provide amazing new directions for gameplay, but Planetary Base Systems doesn't really bring anything new to the table that those don't already cover (last I checked it out, anyway).

Memory consumption is also important; I use WinDirStat to graphically see what the big memory consumers are and decide to keep them or leave them. This also helps me find mods with PNG textures that can be converted by Lilleman's tool.

Some decisions are also made based on intuition and experience. For example, IVA props and spaces seem to be especially costly, so I've set aside Firespitter (besides the plugin), Near Future Tech, and ALCOR/ERS, even though they're all way cool.

Wow, WinDirStat is one of the coolest tools I've seen in a long time. Thank you!!!!

I hear ya... I guess I'm going to have to get out the cutting tool :( Planetary Base systems really is just another form factor for base parts, flat bottoms.... so in that your correct, I'm really duplicating things .... But they are sooo stinking cool...

Near Future, ALCOR yep got those, guess I'll have to dump them too....

Well, nobody's saying you have to dump those specifically, but everything's a trade-off. Nertea and alexustas make beautiful stuff, but I've decided that I'd rather spend my limited RAM on other things. (In particular, I've just recently given up ALCOR because Lithobrake Exploration Technologies gives me a three-person lander can [and lots of other cool lander parts besides] for less than a quarter of the memory overhead, and Near Future was likewise "competing" with USI Flight Transportation Tech.)

Yeah, first thing I miss when booting Windoze... It's included functionality (as well as a radial map view, like Scanner) in KDE/Konqueror :P
