Real-Life Space Stories

After studying the Apollo program in great detail over the past 2 years of my life (read all the mission transcripts, listened to all the audio, looked at all the pictures), it is my conclusion that within the cold, calculated process of spaceflight and space exploration, human moments exist within every mission, and the purpose of this thread is to share any unique occurrences or raw, human moments on spaceflights that may or may not be known by your fellow Space fans.

I have a vast majority of these funny moments from the Apollo program alone, but I'll share a recent discovery.

As Apollo 10 emerged from behind the horizon of the Moon, the mission controllers back on Earth were sweating bullets awaiting for their burn report. After continuously asking for this report, the two personalities of the flight (Gene Cernan, John Young) decided to calm MCC's nerves by broadcasting a Dean Martin song across 210,000 miles towards the massive radio receivers in Australia.

...Goin' back to Houston!

It is moments like these that make me genuinely happy, and certainly the boyish personalities of the so-called "Cold and emotionless" test pilots of the Apollo program certainly have shown through.

Your move, forum!
