Is there anywhere on Moho that stays cool?

Recommended Posts

I'm interested in this question, Moho isn't tidally locked to Kerbol, so there isn't a side that always faces away from it. But are there any places there that stay cool? Such as the Mohole, does that stay cool? I've been thinking of unorthodox locations to focus on, such as Dres, Pol and Tylo.

Most places on Moho are perfectly fine, temp gauges may show, but not enough to melt a ship.

This is key to keep in mind, temp bars don't mean imminent destruction if things are stable. They kick on at 40% of critical temp, whether internal or skin (on Moho they will likely be one and the same unless it's a part that generates a lot of internal heat), which is obviously a far cry from blowing up any time soon. My Moho satellites are all bars all the time and nothing bad will ever come of it.

I don't think the game models temperature in that much detail; even somewhere that's permanently shaded will probably still show a high temperature.

There's detail in the radiation modelling, but I am not sure whether there is detail in the modelling of the shaded areas of a planet.

If there's an atmosphere, conduction and convection are going to dominate. There are certainly ways of making radiators, components which block heat conduction, and something like a heat-pump

On the other hand I can tell you from experience it's hot enough to slowly boil the ablator off your heatshields. (Which I consider a bug.) Returning to Kerbin with 0 ablator and planning to aerocapture will be ... interesting. I just used ions for my Moho trip so I could easily powered capture on return.
