Slow down the Thermal Control System deployment animation

Recommended Posts

The speed at which Thermal Control Systems (radiators) deploy seems too fast, especially when you compare them to solar panels. The large version of the thermal control system is the worst offender and looks like it would put a lot of mechanical stress on the whole structure to move that much mass that quickly.

The solar panels unfold, the radiators use accordion action. When unfolding, each segment has to wait on the one before it to unfold. With the accordion action, it all happens simultaneously. If you compare the Gigantor and the Large Thermal control, it's pretty close to the same.

But the metal radiators in the large Thermal Control System would have a lot more mass than a few thin sheets of glass in the Gigantor solar array.

Also, the 1x6 panels don't unfold but have the same accordion action, and they are much slower compared to the TCS.
