1.04 Find a Kerbal's job before accepting rescue mission contract

So I remember being able to go out into the tracking station and click on the marooned pod and see if they were pilot / engineer / scientist.

Now I can't see anything prior to hitting accept AND even when I do, no information about the kerbal within is given.

I have gotten 3 pilots in a row now...

It's not all bad though, the third guys name was Billy-Bobski Kerman.

Am I missing something here? Or is this just the way it is now?

Believe it's just the way it is, I have never considered it anything but luck of the draw. But I have only been playing since 1.0 and haven't payed too much attention to that to be fair.

There is no way to determine this from a simple in-game option, but I do know the Kerbal name determines their career. I'm not sure of the algorithm that is used, but simply changing a name in the persistence will change their career. So, if you could figure out that algorithm, you could predict what career they will have.
