Heatshield/Reentry malfunctioning ?

Recommended Posts

Hi,

I recently reinstalled my KSP and started a new campaign, but I can't progress since i'm getting some kind of strange problem :

When I reenter atmosphere, I end up burning in it, regardless of the vessel or its velocity.

Just as an exemple, I can't survive a random descent through the atmosphere at normal speed between 1500 and 2500 with something as simple as a 1.5m pod and a 1.5m heatshield : the thing will just obliterate in reentry, I can't even survive a sub-orbital trajectory.

I run with the kOS mod and RemoteTech mod, nothing else.

Do you have any idea what the problem might be ?

  • Not orienting with heatshield first?
  • Changed reentry difficulty?
  • Something changed your physics.cfg file? (do NOT attempt to fix by deleting the file. EVER. :))

Oriented heatshields first ( I'm doing multiple reentry vehicles drop so I turn off SAS then decouple, reentry vehicles goes for the normal descent profile, heatshield first )

Didn't change anything in the difficulty except for the money income ( so 100% heating )

My physics.cfg file is supposed to be clean.

One word on suborbital: It's not necessarily safer than reentry from full orbital because you're coming in steeper and don't have as much time to slow down in the upper atmosphere.

In any event, don't take it for granted that there's nothing wrong with your physics.cfg file. Might be time to post some logs. (there's a sticky in the support forum that tells you how to find it if you're not sure. Also, ModuleManager.ConfigCache is useful for troubleshooting as well so maybe attach that too)
