VTOL Help pls

Recommended Posts

HI all

This is my first post on the Forms.

I've been playing around with VTOL crafts. and i downloaded one and changed it to suit my needs. now it takes off fine. but i want to be able to change to my Horizontal jets once in the air. now. when both vertical and Horizontal jets are going. that is fine. the problem is when i turn off the vertical jets, then i just drops like a stone. Is there anything to stop it happening?

Many Thanks.

Well, it could be this VTOL is intended to be flown like a helicopter and not like a plane, it certainly doesn't look like it has a lot of lift for it's size. Possibly horizontal speed is the issue, but in that case you would still need to fly it as though it was a helicopter, by tilting forward to gain speed, sideways to turn etc, before shutting off the aerospike. If I had to guess tho, I'd say the aerospike is serving the purpose of the main rotor on a chopper and turning it off is bound to have the associated consequences.

I've had the same problem with my Thunder Bird. There are two types of VTOLs. 1. Planes that take off vertically And 2: Craft meant to fly without lift. Basically what the last guy said. That "Turn off vertical engine" is really for the Plane VTOLs. Unless that thing has enough thrust to push it like a SRB (Those engines are quite small) it would be best to keep that bottom engine on.
