For the first time, ISRO has released a video showing footage from an on-board camera! the video is from the GSLV D6 launch on Aug 27, this launch was important because it was using an indian Cryogenic upper stage engine ( rather than the usual Russian ) the Payload was a new GSAT.

the vid shows the separation of the first stage along with the strap-on boosters, and the ignition of the Cryogenic upper stage.

the first part of the video is the separation of the second stage from the first - the second stage still use UDMH + N2O4. then, given that we don't see the interstage falling off in the second part of the video, i think it's effectively the separation of the second stage from the third stage :)

the indian GSLV rockets first stages have always been a bit out of the norm design wise :)

For the MkI & MkII (the one on the video) they use a SRB core stage, flanked by 4 liquid boosters - However, the SRB has a shorter burn time than the 4 liquid boosters, so it stays with the whole stack until stage separation :)

For their upcoming MKIII, they use two SRBs flanking a liquid core stage with two vikas engines - except the core stage is only air started once the SRBs thrust starts dropping at the end of their burn time :) - the SRB continue with the ignited core stage till they flame out then separate from the core stage.
