Roscosmos Recovery Blankets

Can you buy the recovery blankets that Roscosmos uses during their Soyuz crew recovery? I would love to have one. They look so freaking cool!

Ok, this is a new one for me - first time I've seen video of one actually landing ... why is there an explosion?

You probably can't buy them (All Ebay & Google searches produced nothing), but by the looks of it you could buy a wool (from what I can see) blanket with about the same color, sew a silver binding on the edge, and embroider the logo and various accoutrements on the blanket. From what I've seen they use a camel and sheep's wool blend but you could get away with using a merino wool blanket (would be a bit expensive though) or just a softer wool if you can handle any associated scratchiness. If you embroider it you'll probably want to make the blanket a double-thickness to protect any threads that are on the back of the blanket from being pulled or damaged during use and to make the feel of the blanket better. You could also print the graphics on, but it wouldn't be near the same quality and the colors might run.

And if you don't want to do all that yourself, if you call around you could probably find somebody who would do all of this for you, just supply the blanket and a drawing of what you want on it.

From the captions at the bottom of this page, it's actually an intense firing of some engines just before the capsule hits the ground to help the capsule land softly.

Soyuz uses retro rockets to soften the capsule landing.
