What do I do next?

Hello!

I have only started playing KSP and I am confused.

This is day 1 - I have completed all of the contracts, except the 2500 km/sec one (I can do it, but I can't save the Kerbal afterwards).

And now I have nothing else to do... I was imagining I would get to launch communication staellite, unmanned probes to other planets,

build the ISS and loads of other stuff like that, but nothing like that is being offered to me by the game.

I have tried warping the game to no avail... Maybe I am doing something wrong?

Contracts are quite random, and unfortunately that means you can get stuck waiting for a good one.

I'm further than that, but in my current career I've visited Duna and Ike several times and I'm still waiting to be asked to go somewhere else. The answer here is, just focus on progression. If you can't save a kerbal after reaching that speed, work out why not and get it done. You may need to grind some science, and there's a lot of it waiting in space. If you can get into a stable orbit, it's likely to start offering "rescue" contracts.

Well, then you need to improve your design. The 2500m/s contract is basically orbital velocity. Without a ship that can do that AND get back, you're not going to get a lot done.

If this is your first game, I'd suggest playing through the science mode first. You have to unlock the tech tree, but don't have to worry about paying for anything. It introduces the parts in manageable chunks and, as you get more science points the further from home you are, it encourages exploration. Crew reports, EVA reports, surface samples and observing the strange Goo canister at both the launchpad and runway give you some easy points early on. Have fun

You don't have to follow contracts as they appear.
