What can I do to keep myself from losing interest in KSP?

Recommended Posts

1. Have you been to every planet and moon?

2. Have you captured and asteroid?

3. Have you built a space station?

4. Have you flown a plane? Successfully? And Landed it?

5. Can you get a plane to space? Can you do it without dropping stages?

6. Can you build a vertical launch shuttle (this one is really challenging, harder than a plane believe it or not).

1. Half of the stock ones, but currently working with several planet packs.

2. Nope.

3. Yes, this is typically what I enjoy doing most.

4. Yes, no and no.

5. I've never really been successful with planes.

6. Not sure what that is.

I'm not sure why you'd add more and more planets if you've not actually visited all that the stock game has to offer.

If you enjoy building stations, why not try building them in other places, like surface bases on Mun, or building a station in solar orbit. You can build stations in Kerbin orbit and then send them off the act as bases for other planets.

Spaceplanes aren't for everyone. They're harder to build and harder to fly than rockets, but for some they're way more fun than rockets. The fact that half of Ashain's questions are about them kinda indicates how diverse and different they are.

Question 6 is about a space shuttle that works and flies like NASA's space shuttle, i.e. a non-symmetical rocket that drops a spaceplane off the side when it gets to space, and then lands on a runway.

You need to set your own goals in KSP, that's why it's so difficult to tell you what makes it fun. Some people have turned it into a wargame by adding weapons packs or turning stock parts into weapons, others just like building things to blow up, others like taking it as a serious space-exploration simulator, and some just like doing wacky stuff and posting it on youtube (check out Danny2642 if you're interested). In each category you have players who like different things, like stock vs mods, surface vehicles vs flight, asteroids vs surface mining, planes vs rockets, etc.

KSP is a blank canvas with a few rules that determine it's size and shape. You really do have to use your imagination to make it fun. What do you enjoy doing? What could you try to do that would challenge you at the same time as giving you the chance to achieve something you were proud of? We can suggest examples, but it's really up to you to figure these things out for yourself.

Usually when I try KSP, I stop 2 days later and don't come back for another 7 months before trying it for another 2 days before losing interest again.

Set yourself some goals!

Like the grand tour or something, or try some challenges!

Minecraft rules, Portal design.

Let me explain that.

Portal design. Roughly half of the playtime of Portal was learning how to use the portal gun, the companion cube, gravity, etc. The rest was getting the cake.

Minecraft rules. "There's no rules but what we make for ourselves." </T2 young John Conner voice> You can build nearly anything you want in minecraft. You just have to set the goal and work towards it. Build it creative. Work for in survival.

KSP is like those two... except the turrets aren't as cute, and the kraken hates you more than the creepers.

And plan big, launch big, build big.

Nothing wrong with taking a break sometimes, unless you are burnt out 90% of the time. :sticktongue:

Maybe KSP gameplay doesn't suite what you like to play. There might not be any answer to your OP question. Do you like game without built-in goal ? like Minecraft...

Are you quite sure you like KSP, rather than liking the idea of a what you think KSP should be...? It sounds like you're finding the game lacking in at least one key area that you're looking to engage with.

Admittedly I drift in and out as the promise of the next version appears on the horizon, but I tend to be in for several weeks-months at a span.

That said, Kerbal Joint Reinforcement will solve a lot of launchpad woes.

I also lose interest in KSP every once in a while. When I open it, however, my interest in it goes skyrocket.

Here's what I did, recently:

Install mods that make the game harder. Examples are TAC Life Support, FAR, KCT, etc.

Make a new Career save on Hard mode. Heck, even tweak the values to make it even harder!

Done.

It's actually quite fun. Try also learning how to calculate orbital mechanics with formulas. No MJ.
