Hmm, I will wait until more data regarding the date of the volcanism is in, 50 000 years seems a tad long a time between a massive impact and volcanism to occur on the other side of the planet, and the mass media does not have a good track record when dealing with scientific matters, and it appears that the scientists themselves think that it is probably closer than 50 000 years to the impact.
