KSP Jargon Dictionary

Tex

Recommended Posts

Hello everybody, today I'm embarking on a new project!

I'm basically going to go around researching, patrolling the forums to gather information about all the KSP jargon I encounter. What is Asparagus staging? What does SAS actually stand for? I plan to answer questions like these and more.

The information I present here will, I hope, be able to allow you to better describe what DID happen to that rocket that malfunctioned, to ask other players with shorthand to make things smooth and simple for ease of translation and the sharing of ideas. I am open to suggestions, which you can add via replying to the thread.

I plan on making the first few entries soon, so suggest away as to what I should add!

To be defined: Asparagus staging, SAS, Snacks, Oberth-ing, RUB, Sky writing, landshark, CATO

While I plan on adding a little bit of both, I am more attempting to get some of the lingo developed by KSP players. For example, "Asparagus Staging" is a term coined to describe feeding fuel into and jettisoning multiple strap-on boosters, and is not found in real rocket engineering due to its complexity. More than this, though, it's basically going to be either alternate definitions or definitions for things that aren't unofficially official, but players use to describe situations or features they encounter. RUB is one I actually saw about thirty minutes ago, and stands for Rapid Unplanned Backwardness and is pretty much what it sounds like.

Hope this clears it up.
