How do you un-deploy a parachute?

I have a space craft in orbit of Kerbin and I accidentally deployed the chutes. Now they are going to deploy too soon and burn up in the upper atmosphere. How do I reverse the deployment state? Can I pack them back in and re-deploy them later or am I just hooped?

As far as I know you can only cut them or load a previous save, happend to me too several times.

You can change their minimum atmospheric pressure to deploy. I usually set them to 0.5 so they open up around 4500m, which is usually a safe altitude.

I believe the type of game you're playing will matter here; Perhaps others can elaborate. I'm playing a Science Sandbox game, and for that all I need do is EVA a Kerbal over to the chutes and right-click on them and select the repack option. I think in a Career game the Kerbal has to be an Engineer, but don't quote me on it.

Claw's Stock+ has this option. Otherwise - only save edit.

Just re-enter, and they will undeploy themselves as they shred and burn up.

Makes for a hard landing, though.

I launched an SSTO to rescue the crew, and then I'll see if changing the atmo setting will work, thanks.

In career mode an engineer can repack a parachute, just eva over to the parachute and right click on it. The engineer might have a minimum number of stars required though.

Set the deployment pressure, I like to use 0.5 atm - but do a quicksave before reentry, in case you set it too high/fast, or run into high cumulogranite clouds before reaching the deployment pressure.
