Xstreme Air Racing

Welcome to the best (ok, the only) active racing network on Kerbin.

With a discipline and racer class to suit every pilot, there a wide range of options here for you to put your craft and skills up to the test against the best race pilots this side of Mos Eisley.

Unlimited - Modded

Absolutely anything goes - well, almost. Any mods deemed overpowered will be disqualified, eg. no 10,000 thrust 9,000 isp super-jets. As long as the craft seems "in the spirit" of the competition, it's probably fine.

Unlimited - Stock

Any power source, any weight, any part count, do your worst, as long as it's stock. Any craft entered in other categories will also be automatically entered in this one too.

Formula Podracer

For stock craft in the general podracer configuration of pilot in a pod attached by cables behind two engine pods. The cables do not have to flex like in real podracers, although they may not provide any lift. Lifting and control surfaces are allowed as long as they do not take the form of traditional wings.

Single Turbojet

For stock craft powered solely by a single Whiplash engine.

Single Turbofan

For stock craft powered solely by a single Wheesley engine.

Budget

Whatever you can create with a dry cost of 15000 funds or under. Any powerplant, as long as it costs less than 15000 funds unfueled.

Formula Aeris

You can race any plane, as long as it's an Aeris 3A.

This should help even the playing field for a race more about the pilot's skill than the capabilities of their plane.

Rules: All craft must be based off the stock Aeris 3A. You may however adjust resource levels and make modifications to the Aeris 3A. For example, you can adjust the position of wings and remove the ladder if you wish, as long as you keep the general delta+canards configuration.

Runway Drag

For a simple test of how fast you can get by the end of the runway.

Start where the craft loads on launch from the SPH. You may hold the craft on the brakes to allow engines to spool up. Accelerate down the runway, maintaining an altitude of less than 120 metres.

In addition to standard requirements, needs a screenshot of the craft at launch on the runway, and one of it passing over the east end of the runway with speed clearly visible. As it is hard to get the timing perfect this screenshot can be taken anywhere from the last set of white lines on the runway to the end of the grass mound the runway is on.

Rally

A test of how quickly you can get your craft from the runway to a set location passing through a series of waypoints. Altitude limits will be set for each race.

Example races could include: Runway to North Pole, Runway to flying through a hangar on the island and returning, Runway to various anomalies and back.

In addition to standard requirements, you must provide a screenshot at launch, a screenshot at the end of the race to show your time and that you have met altitude requirements, and screenshots while passing all required waypoints.

Pylon (KSC) Racing

An intense test of your piloting skill, this requires you to follow a course of tight turns weaving around the KSC buildings. Your score is your MET on passing through the gate marking the end of the race.

In addition to standard requirements, you must provide a screenshot at launch, a screenshot at each specified waypoint, and a screenshot at the end of the race showing your MET.

Multiple entries are allowed, even of the same craft. If you've posted a time and want to improve it, that's very much fine.

No mod parts except in the Modded class. You can have such mods installed, as long as you don't use them.

Informational mods are accepted in all classes, e.g KER.

No autopilots - this should be a test of your piloting skill. You may however use mechjeb for information, as long as it does not control the aircraft in any way.

No game-changing mods, eg. KJR. Mods like life support mods are allowed, however, as they should not affect the race.

Screenshot of craft in SPH

To ensure it meets class requirements.

Video or screenshots of craft passing waypoints etc.

Although either are acceptable, you may find video reduces your workload as a pilot as you do not need to take screenshots. If you have windows 10, there is now built in video recording software you may wish to use.

Rally: The Island Run

Take off from the runway, stay straight until past the end of the runway, then head towards the islands east of KSC. Break right over the island with the runway, cornering around the mountain and then heading towards the next island in the chain. Turn right around it and return to the first island. The race ends when your wheels touch down upon the runway on that island.

Altitude must remain under 750 metres at all times.

Pylon racing

For the first week this course has relatively gentle turns and wide gates, but there's still plenty of opportunity to blow yourself up.

From takeoff remain straight over the runway, on crossing the runway end turn right and head back past the launchpad water tower. Pass between the VAB and the Mission Control building.

Turn right between the SPH and the Astronaut Complex to pass over the runway, taking another right turn after that to head between Mission Control and the SPH.

After turning left to avoid the VAB, take another right to head between the leftmost Tracking Station dish and the Tracking Station building. Spin around the tracking station coming out heading towards the right side of the VAB.

Turn left to go between the VAB and spherical coolant tank thing, next taking another right to pass over the runway. Then take one last right to pass between Mission Control and the SPH, finishing the race.

Here's a very badly drawn map:

I'm rounding the drag time to 300m/s because I took the screenshot that says 303m/s a bit late.

I pressed F2 for some reason on the last rally screenshot but I remember the time at touchdown was 2:35.

Missing a couple of screenshots at the start because imgur messed up, but the final time was 1:37.
