Altitude of "In Flight" situation on Kerbin

Recommended Posts

So, I got a contract to complete an atmospheric scan while "in flight" on Kerbin above 18,800m. Unfortunately, when I take a plane up to there and get within the target range at >18800m, I can't seem to complete the contract's requirements. Instead, I get a reading from the "upper atmosphere". Perhaps it's because I'm fast enough in clicking it right when I get within that range, but I'm just checking -- is the range for being "in flight" <19,000 meters? The indicator below the altimeter seems to show you're in the atmosphere below that.

I attached a picture of the contract on here (you can see the description on the bottom right) - another strange element is that the picture on the tracking station for the location, which normally looks like a pressure gauge for pressure readings, is instead something I'm not sure how to describe (middle contract image in the picture).

Anyway, I'm curious if that's my window so I know... 200 vertical meters?

Any ideas on how to get that perfect with it? My spaceplane tech isn't fully developed yet so it's hard enough for me to get a plane up there, let alone having to also get there within a 200 meter range.

The problem here is not that you're not "in flight". The problem is that, if you're using the PresMat Barometer, you're using the wrong instrument.

The contract wants an "atmospheric analysis" - that's the reading which the "Atmospheric Fluid Spectro-Variometer" gives you. So you need to make sure one of those is on your plane.

Well... I feel surprisingly dumb. I always considered it "atmospheric pressure" so when I read "atmosphere analysis" it didn't come to my head that it could be anything but a pressure reading. I'll try again. With the right instrument this time.

Thanks
