The Duna Odyssey

Based off a true story with my experience with KSP on my first duna landing but more dramatized.

CHAPTER 1 The Launch

Bob: Alright Jeb pull out the pre-flight checklist.

Jeb: Roger that.

*Jeb Pulls Out The Pre-Flight Checklist*

Jeb: Alright, electric charge at maximum?

Bob: Check.

Jeb: Fuel tanks full?

Bob: Check.

Jeb: Fuel Feed Switched On?

Bob: Check.

Jeb: Alright were done lets rock!

Bill: Attention KSC we are ready for take off, awaiting countdown.

KSC: Roger that Bill.

KSC: Duna I will launch in T-Minus 10-9-8-7-6-5-4 Main Engine Start 2-1-0 Blastoff!

*Launch Clamps Release Followed By Duna I Launching Into The Air*

Jeb: Alright we are going to Duna!

Bill: Dont get too excited you never know when a disaster might happen...

Bob: Come on Bill! You gotta stop thinking bad and look positive, the negative will hold you down. Remember we had to abort the Katurn-V because you screamed when we undocked from the transfer stage to dock up to the Munar-Lander?

Bill: Ok alright fine I will keep my mouth shut about the negative.

*2 Minutes Later*

Jeb: Preparing circularization burn in 3-2-1 fire!

Bill: Welp this doesnt seem too bad!

Bob: Yeah see? Its gonna be alright!

Jeb: Cutting engines in 3-2-1 mark!

Jeb: Ok we are now in orbit!

Bill: Phew! Now that thats over what now?

Bob: We wait for Duna to be in the correct place so when we burn out of kerbin orbit it will be waiting for us in the right place to burn towards.

Bill: Sounds like a plan! I cant wait to walk on the planet that looks like pizza!

CHAPTER 2 The Orbital Insertion

Jeb: Alright two days and we are ready to burn! Everybody put they're buckles on!

*Jeb hears the clicks of Bob and Bills seatbuckles being locked together*

Bob/Bill: Ready!

Jeb: Good... Setting up maneuver node for Duna orbital insertion burn!

Jeb: 5-4-3-2-1 Fire!

*After 4 Minutes Of Burning (Yes I Remember How Much Time It Took To Burn)*

Jeb: Alright cutting engines!

Bill: So we are at kerbin escape velocity?

Bob: The readings say more than enough, its enough to raise our orbit around the sun to overlap with Duna's orbit, Right when we reach periapsis Duna will be there too.

Jeb: Good now we just wait.

Bob: How long?

Jeb: Around six months.

Bill: Did we bring the cryo chambers?

Jeb: Yep, get into them now. I dont wanna wait six months.

*Six Months Later*

*Cryo Beds Open*

Jeb: Alrig- oh wait they still have one more minute of cryogenic sleep...

Jeb: Well I guess I can use this time to reboot the ships systems.

*One Minute Later*

*Bill And Bobs Cryo Chamber Opens*

Bill: Its good to be back!

Bob: Yeah you said it Bill.

Jeb: Well how was your sleep?

Bob: Well a nightmare delayed my sleep so it didnt feel like 10 seconds.

Bill: I had an awesome sleep, no dreams no nothin.

Jeb: Thats good to hear you two. We made it in one pice. Duna is 247,586 miles away.

Bill: Where's the window I wanna see this.

Bob: Me too!

Jeb: Right this way, theres a hatch with a window. Just dont pull the lever!

*Jeb Bob And Bill Walk To The Hatch With The Window To Find Duna's Reddish Surface With White Snowy Ice Caps*

Bob: Its beautiful!

Bill: Its magnificent!

Jeb: Well its not over yet, we are going to land there!

Bill: But we are so far away, we will waste so much delta V retrograding our orbit.

Jeb: We are areo-breaking.

Bob: *Gasp* You havent used that maneuver trick for years! And plus remember the last time kazor tried to do it on kerbin? He got disinigrated into the atmosphere!

Jeb: Duna's atmosphere is two times thinner than kerbin's atmosphere so more likely we will not burn up.
