Weird discoloration on part textures

Recommended Posts

I've been making a plane parts mod, with a stockalike-ish style. Unfortunately, I'm having some weird pink/green discoloration around gray gradients:

I'm currently using part tools to export as .mbm, but this issue was present with .png as well. How do I fix it?

Edit: I feel I should also mention that this does not show up in Unity or Blender. Only in the actual game.

They're compression artifacts. They're less obvious if the textures are a little busier. Try to blend some irregularity over the flat areas and/or apply slight gradients, and/or overlay it with a slight hint of noise, that'll dither the discolorations and hopefully prevent them from forming apparent patterns and lines.

I noticed whenever I created a part and kept the textures as PNGs, these would show up. Though after i converted the texture to DDS it seemed to go away.

It might have been how KSP handled its internal conversion of images to dds that caused the artifacts, though that is just my speculation.

Are the textures already DDS when these artifacts are showing, or are they a different format?
