Can I turn off smoke effects?

Hi all. Hope your looking forward to 1.0.5 like I am Anyway, back to the matter in hand.....

Im using my laptop which runs KSP great when I play as I normally do, which is to build rockets and fly.....

However, Im currently testing my first VTOL which I'm loving however the smoke effects on the runway are causing lag so I cannot test properly.

Its a stock game I'm using and my graphics settings are at the lowest possible.

Once the smoke effect has gone Im hovering great and get a smooth framerate.....

Is there a way to remove the smoke effects while I'm testing?

Mhhh well I don't know exactly but you could try looking through the config files for settings that arent available ingame. Apart from that I would think a plugin would be the way to go, although I don't know whether anyone has made one for this purpose, sorry.

No worries but thankyou for a quick reply....

I could set up my gaming PC tower and the problem would not be there anymore but at the moment I can't (wife doesn't like it on the kitchen table!)

I would think there is a way but if not I'll just deal with it.

Found it

In the settings.cfg file there is a line which says SURFACE_FX = True

I changed it to SURFACE_FX = False and now there is no smoke and no lag whatsoever!

Thankyou for your suggestion about going into the config file......first time I have and it works like a dream.

I shall be using this change for everything I do on my laptop from now on. It's so smooth!

(HINT: maybe useful for others with lag issues, especially launching a rocket etc.....)

For the record, if you do this and experience the same as I have could you let me know as if it helps you I'd love to hear about it
