Option of 64bit KSP 1.1 for Steam Users?

Hi everybody,

Just wondering when KSP 1.1 comes out with 64bit version, will there be an option for those who bought earlier 32bit versions of the game from Steam to be able to upgrade to the 64bit?

Regards =)

.....whether you want them or not.

I've had more than one Kerbal universe obliterated when KSP automatically updated itself and the update broke the save. My backup copies of old versions didn't help, because Steam updated them immediately. There IS an option in Steam to turn off automatic updating of games--but that option seems to turn itself off again as soon as you're not looking, and the automatic updating is basically impossible to stop. A small, cruel, and really vicious part of me wanted to restore an old version and set all the files to read-only and see if the Steam server would explode........

What I have done is copy the KSP-steam folder to a different location (actually 2 locations: one as a backup and one as the location I play from). When I play I use the KSP.exe instead of launcher.exe so steam doesn't start. I play KSP not from the steam folder but from a copy folder.

you can use 64-bit steam version NOW if you wish.

right-click KSP from your library

select Properties

click the "launch options" button

in the text field, type LC_ALL=%command%_64

then click OK and close the properties window.

launch the game as normal and enjoy 64bits.

** Please note that the RED text is only included for Linux users, Windows users DO NOT include that part. EG, Linux type the whole thing, Windows is blue portion only.

I do this as well, I also find Steam's mandatory updates infuriating. They're harmless for most games, but there are a few, like KSP, where updates can cause save-file-breaking issues, and I'd much rather update those at my leisure.

I've long since stopped playing KSP with my main Steam install; I've got several copies of 0.90, 1.0.2, and 1.0.4 with various mod configurations elsewhere and I use those 99 percent of the time. Steam doesn't touch them, even though I actually launch them through Steam anyway (I like Steam's screenshot function better than KSP's.) The original Steam install now mostly gets used whenever I need a stock, 32-bit install for debugging purposes.

On Linux, which already has 64-bit, both the 32 and 64-bit executables exist in the KSP folder as installed. Steam defaults to launching the 32-bit version, but you just need to change the launch options, as mentioned by Xyphos, to launch the 64-bit version.

  • The Windows package does not ship a 64 bit binary, hasn't for some time.
  • That command line is incorrect, and won't work at all on Linux. Please see the KSP on Steam section of The Linux Thread for the correct commandline.

Hi stibbons,

  • That command line is incorrect, and won't work at all on Linux. Please see the KSP on Steam section of The Linux Thread for the correct commandline.

So that's why it didn't work =">

Anyways, am trying out the win64bit workaround and asked on another thread (http://forum.kerbalspaceprogram.com/threads/113069-WIN-1-0-X-KSP-x64-Total-Unfixer-v2-2-04-08-2015?p=2285395). Using proc-explorer, am going pass the 7GB mem usage mark without crashing often =D

Regards =)

It's not turning itself off. The confusion arises because the option will only work as long as you don't try to launch the game through Steam.
