I think the goliath air intake occlusion needs to be modified...

This doesn't work:

In fact... you can put another 1.25m part in front of the engine nacelle, and the intake air still works...

It seems a bit inconsistent to me.

In both cases, the intake should stop producing air if the part attached to the forward node has the same diameter or greater...

I'm guessing a .625m part in front of the goliath also prevents the intake from functioning.
