Any luck lifting from Eve since 1.0.5?

Recommended Posts

But just as I told you in the Eve challenge topic, the canards are heatploding during reentry from LEO.

But well I gues it's small enough so we can put it into a fairing with a heatshield, so nice job ! :)

Yes, this is only half the job really so far. I can get a small craft into space and now I need to make it landable too. Finally I'll make a Kerbin lifter and transfer stages.

Very backwards but that's how it seems to work best to go about such things in KSP.

About to try my eve lander in 1.05... I really don't want to have to use the reversed nose cone exploit...

Well, re-enty wasn't too bad... lost 4 controlsurfaces (that would be discarded with the first stage anyway), and 1 airbrake.

I was using airbrakes to keep it pointing retrograde... but if I deployed them too long, they'd overheat... I didn't retract them intime and lost one...

Its not the same lander as in 1.04... I'm using the bottom nodes of the aerospikes to put heat shields on the craft... works well in general... Reentry protected by a heat shield (or multiple heat shields for my somewhat wide asparagus lifter) isn't too bad.

I have 9128 of 12200 ablator left...

At this point, 1,500 m/s and slower, its just as easy as always

after getting back to orbit:

Now comes the ascent....

Well, I made it to orbit with only the temperature bar on my nosecone going orange, not red.

It was a pretty inefficient ascent since I didn't have much of a gravity turn.

Eve perapsis of 107km, no KER, but based on the fuel I have left, I calculate 869 m/s of dV left.

Took off from 1408 meters.

Craft mass when reentry started was 105.6 tons.... yea... not ideal... but it is at least possible to enter eve's atmosphere and then ascend from Eve

Ok, so now I've built a launcher for it (I'm sure my SSTO could lift it)... that gets it to LKO and then eve. The eve transfer stage is overbuilt, and I'm sure I could reduce its size and include a return vehicle with the launcher)

I've additionally added disposable science experiments (I but a mat bay behind a 1.25m heat shield, I hope that is enough), a probe core facing down so I can properly use the aero control surfaces to control orientation, on the way down, I've also adjusted the positioning of the control surfaces that exploded previously, added small control surfaces at the top to make it more stable, removed some ablator to reduce mass... added more solar panels and a transmitter.

Its got everything needed to harvest science from a biome, and dV to spare.

Hot from air make cold ship hot.

Radiator move more hot to cold thing.

Why radiator not move hot from cold ship to hot air?

Is Broken! Is Bug! Is Kraken! Is Squad!

Is not physics.

Is not stupid.

(And I haven't even done the caveman challenge).
