Side or top hatch for the Mk1 Passenger Cabin

I really dislike the fact that the passenger cockpit only has hatches on the end nodes, which are often blocked off by my structure. Could someone make a hatch for it on the top please?

I can see two ways to accomplish this - one is making a replacement version of the part that includes the hatch, the other is making an almost flush mount 'airlock' part you could attach to any piece in the game. You'd have to 'crew transfer' kerbals from their pod or crew cabin to the airlock, then eva from the airlock... but... that's a pretty realistic addition to the process anyway.

Anyone have thoughts on which of those approaches sounds better?
