Dart VTOL, Jet

I've been on a KSP hiatus for a while. Basically waiting for 64 bit to come out. -T-h-i-s-c-r-a-f-t-*-s-h-o-u-l-d-*-b-e-s-t-o-c-k, even though my game is heavily modded (no visual enhancements, need 64 bits!)

UPDATE: Just realized that those engine pods I like so much are NOT STOCK, they are from the MK4 Spaceplane Parts Pack

I called it the Dart because that is what it reminded me of at the time.

I'm really liking these new parts, but please bring back the old MK1 fighter jet cockpit as a mod or something!

Top of the VAB is a must in any VTOL...

Just as the island runway is a must for any craft...
I like that.

I'm a fairly lousy pilot and anything you can land without a long fall onto a runway appeals to me.
I quickly learned that you have to be a fairly accomplished pilot to handle this one... Constant minor adjustments to the throttle and direction are required to keep it in one piece while landing! Those landing gear are only good for about 8-10 meters per second max descent speed at impact. Found that out the hard way. Wanna slow down change direction really fast? Cut the throttle. Warning: do not attempt that maneuver below 2000m! LOL Found that out the hard way too! This thing will hit some pretty amazing speeds, but after about 550mps, it disintegrates. After about an hour in the air and multiple crashes, I finally got the hang of it.

I usually end up putting parachutes on all my aircraft as a "when all else fails" option. This craft is no exception. I also put my next favorite parts on it too: air brakes. Deploying these at high speeds will make it flip around to retrograde, just like cutting the throttle.

I'm really liking some of the new parts, like the engine pods I used on this craft. They remind me of the ones used on a B-52 bomber. I can't wait to see what other people make with them!
