Leveling Up Kerbals Without Returning to KSC

Is there a way to level up Kerbals as a stand alone mod? Field Experience doesn't work or else it would be perfect, and Kolonists mod appears outdated. I may have to suck it up, and get the Umbra Space Industries mod in order to get the Kolonists mod working, but then I'd have to deal with lifesupport, a commitment I'm not willing to make easily.

Field Experience has been working for me. I had Jeb, Bill and Bob go from Minmus to Kerbol orbit, and they are still a day away, but at 3 stars each. I did do an exit and reload between their return to Kerbin space and now, though.
