Orbiter Level 11 Mars detail... come incredible stuff here....

If someday KSP could present that level of detail while running like it does now, it would be absolutely amazing. However, I am not sure that such detail is within the realm of the game. The art style is much more cartoony, and while it has been transforming into something more realistic, total realism like those shots is not the intent.

IIRC (it's been a few years since I fired up Orbiter), the collision model is spherical for Mars and as such doesn't always match the terrain.  I imagine that would frustrate KSP players quite a bit.
