Question Regarding Exprience

I tried to search for like topics but didn't find any.  I was wondering if there was any thought to giving the experience system a little more granularity,  that is some small experience for completing contracts, repairs, science experiments instead of just visiting certain biomes,  etc.  I guess I think expanding the possibilties of gaining experience through more varied activities would provide a deeper and more realistic experience.  Any thoughts?  Does anyone know of a mod that expands the experience system?  Please advise.
