make mk1 crew cabin symmetrical/balanced

Recommended Posts

Right now the mk1 crew cabin seats its passengers on one side of the cabin and this causes it to give my craft an uneven weight distribution and a an off-center center of mass. It is significant enough that it prevents me from launching spacecraft with the mk1 crew cabin because they always tip over on the side where the passengers are sitting. It's very annoying.

I discovered this after troubleshooting for the last 3 hours to isolate the cause of my spacecraft's lack of balance. To replicate for yourself, just make a small, simple, perfectly symmetrical craft with the mk1 crew cabin and passengers inside it. In my tests I've discovered that apparently the seats themselves are light enough that they don't really make a difference, it only becomes a big problem when there are passengers.

Please, please, make the seats in the cabin in the center of the part. Or put the two seats on opposite sides.

Ok, I'll bite.

Firstly, kerbals INSIDE a craft don't add any mass (unless something has changed). Secondly, just to see for myself before posting that first part, I built a craft consisting of a stayputnik, Mk1 cabin, a flea, two radial mount parachutes (because the IVA looking out the window looked so fun I wanted my kerbals to live) and two of the smallest fins (only because I couldn't stop it from flipping on its back due to aero) and launched from a single launch clamp at about a 60-70 degree angle. With/without kerbals it always flew in a straight line.

Is there maybe a plugin or something that he could have installed that does this?

I rember a mod that does this - I think it was called "KerbalMass" or something like that. Though I couldn't find it with a quick search, so I can't tell if it still works on the current version.

got it here: http://forum.kerbalspaceprogram.com/index.php?/topic/98948-102-kerbalmass-10-release/#comment-1703878

But as far as I can see it only affects the mass of the part wherein the crew is sitting, without accounting for the place where the crews sits in the part. That would mean this plugin cannot be it.
