fuel transfer trick?

some of the videos I've seen have a trick were you can put fuel lines from the outer engines to the center one.  The idea is that the outer fuel tanks then feed all the engines and when the outer ones run out the inner engine still has %100 fuel.  But when I try it, it doesn't turn out that way.  Is this something that has been eliminated from the game, or am I just doing it wrong?

There are little arrows on the fuel lines I believe.

Ah, you're referring to "asparagus staging" as it's been coined by the KSP community. There's a Scott Manley video on YouTube on "Advanced Rocket Design" that covers it at about the 21 minute mark.

It's still there and it's still good but apart from putting the fuel-lines the wrong way around you should be aware of a couple of other limitations:

  • Solid Rocket Booster fuel can't be transferred this way - it's solid
  • Monopropellant (RCS) and liquid-Fuel only engines (jets, LV-N) draw fuel equally from all tanks

As always pictures of your ship would help, along with a description of what does happen, if anything.
