Edit control surfaces

Recommended Posts

Hello,

This is my first post and I apologize if this has already been addressed.  My only issue with the game is the current control surfaces sometimes moving in the opposite direction as I intend for it to move.  for example, the control up input causing certain surfaces to move correctly and some to move inversely.  My suggestion it to have additional options to set like the deploy inverted option when the control surface is selected that allows you to change pitch up, pitch down, roll, and yaw to be allowed to invert.  This can create dampening effects by having some surfaces roll properly and others to cancel out part of that roll preventing snap rolling at hyper-sonic speeds and can be set to action groups maybe?  This can help create more customization options in atmospheric flight.  Just an idea

I've noticed this, and I think its because of how the surfaces are related to the COM.

This is especially common on swept wing designs, where I find my wing control surfaces going the wrong way. I've found deploying them does help, but sometimes thats not enough.

I know having this would help someone, but there is always the issue of not knowing which way inverted really is. Or which way the control surface will turn without actually testing it. As such it would get rather confusing really fast to make use of this change in the current form. The same thing was found to be the case with the wheels that turn, inverting them gave no indication of which way they turn, or if they were even inverted. The differences is control surfaces are far more important and more complicated to understand in the first place.

Even more than this, I have attempted to use slats on the leading edge of wings of my large planes as well as flaps.   The leading edge dips when I attempt to pitch up and my flaps flare up no matter what part of the plane I attach the part to.  It can be ahead of my COM or behind, the result is the same.  My tail planes work fine, however I cannot seem to find how to invert the surfaces.  This change seems minor (could probably even be modded) and would make spaceplanes more practical

Also, why not have the option to use your control surfaces in the vab and hangar?  to see your flaps move without having to launch would be nice.

Edit to address DoctorDavinci:     I did try to flip and rotate the surfaces and unfortunately it did not work for me.  I was very hopeful it would work.  As for the wheels, launch once, find out which ones are wrong, revert, fix, and save.  30 seconds to fix it.  Imagine not being able to invert steering at all.  That is what the slats going the wrong way is like.

The deploy function is to deploy the flaps like the large passenger airlines do at takeoff and landing.  This maximizes lift at low speeds.  This is at the cost of drag.  If flaps are always deployed, it would create a control surface constantly pitching your plane up which would have to be counteracted with your other control surfaces.  It would make pitching down difficult too.
