How do I get Google to search within a forum section?

I don't think it's possible to search within a certain forum section, but you can add the name of the forum you want to search in your query, because that's printed at the top and bottom of every thread display page.

For example, this threadd shows: "Home -> Community -> Kerbal Network -> How do I get Google to search within a forum section?"

This is your first choice @smjjames. However if your really need a deeper search use "allintitle" command. However watch out because google sees this as a possible infringement of terms of service. Repeated use looks like a DOS attack to Google I think. As a result Google may ask you to prove it is genuine search via an annoying CAPTCHA block. Never the less worth a try if really stuck at finding forum information.

Say for example your looking for a mod by "Dr" somebody. Here is a search for anything to do with the letters "Dr"

allintitle:DR site:forum.kerbalspaceprogram.com

Also it worth mentioning that a simpler method is to not search the page title (and thus thread). A simple string search is more intuitive. Say you want something on" mechjeb"

 "mechjeb" site:forum.kerbalspaceprogram.com

This thread is quite old. Please consider starting a new thread rather than reviving this one.
