GPU Issues

I have read many things that say the NVidia GeForce GT840M 2GB graphics card can run KSP on med/high settings. Is this wrong or is there something wrong with my GPU because I get 45fps on the launchpad with just a pod. This happens on an unmodded and a modded install on 1.05. I have lowered the resolution and many other things and am running at as low as possible settings but flying a 20 part spaceplane I still get 40-45fps all the way to orbit. I am running KSP 1.05 32-bit on Windows 10. Does anyone know of a fix to boost fps?

Specs:

GPU: NVidia GeForce GT840M 2GB

CPU: Intel i7 5500U

RAM: 8GB

My laptop is an ASUS Zenbook UX303LN

Also, if I zoom in really close on a part so it covered the entire screen, I gain a few fps sometimes.

Have you made sure KSP is running on the dedicated graphics card? Laptops are notorious for running games on the bad build in graphics instead of the dedicated card.

Yeah I think it is because GPU-Z shows activity with ksp open. It is because ksp.exe is set to use it in nvidia control panel. I experienced this with minecraft.

Does the clock in the upper left hand corner turn yellow when in-game?

It only turns yellow when I have 150+ parts. I experience low fps usually when looking at the KSC from the runway or launchpad but also when re-entry heating and the white trails that parts make when going fast.
