Voyager returns to Earth!!

I've been a Star Trek fan since I was 8; the problem is the canon of the franchise is all over the place: I've tried to place them in Chronological order as best as I can determine from intro star dates:

  • ST: Enterprise  - borg present; First Contact movie tie-in
  • ST:TOS - no borg mentioned
  • ST: TAS (these cartoons were written and/or produced by Roddenberry and are considered the last two years of the five year mission) - no borg mentioned.
  • ST: TMP: V'GER (Voyager VI) returns to Earth after being refurbished by a planet inhabited by living machines. No way to precisely determine if the BORG were actually the referenced species/race/civilization. At a conference in 2001/2ish, I remember someone asking Rick Berman this, his response was that there were those who said yes, it was, no it wasn't. Absolutely no help...
  • ST: TWK - no borg mentioned
  • ST: TSS - no borg mentioned
  • ST: TVH - no borg mentioned
  • ST: TUC - no borg mentioned
  • ST: TNG: - Borg introduced
  • ST: DS9 - borg mentioned/seen maybe once...
  • ST: GENERATIONS - Movie sucks. This is not the Trek you are looking for. 'nuf said.
  • ST: V - Borg followed up for most of series
  • ST: INSURRECTION - No Borg
  • ST: Nemesis - No borg

---

Re-imagined universe:

Star Trek - No mention of borg

Star Trek Into the Darkness - no mention of borg

So with that said...

Anywho, I get the joke, but you have to understand your audience. If you had posted this on a Star Trek forum, I might have gotten the joke on my own (but since I don't consider that canon, I might not have thought of that), but the Kerbal forums are a lot more focused on actual space technology, so in the context of this forum, it makes perfect sense that the first thing everyone here is going to think is "Both voyager probes are on escape trajectories and that's not a picture of them, what is this guy talking about?". I mean, I appreciate the effort to make us laugh, but I hope you can understand why no one here was in the right frame of mind to get your joke.

You nailed it.

Even with all the explanations, I still don't get the "joke".

I still doubt there actually WAS a 'joke'.

Me too... I am a huge star trek fan; as you can tell from my previous post, I am a bit nerdy too. And with that said, I still do not see the joke...

Here's the problem:

A good joke has two things, the build up, and the punchline. Here your punchline is that Vger is here, I think. But there's no buildup. It's not even a voyager picture, so this joke tanked. But don't stop making jokes. It can be hit or miss a lot of the time. However, sometimes you need to think through a joke, and figure out how it's funny to your audience. Jokes work really well when they're in the right context. Here, there isn't really a context. We have voyager in the title, and a picture of Rosetta. It's more cryptic, really. No offense, though. A lot of my jokes aren't good, too. :)

Something about the Voyager spacecraft turning into V'ger and then making the borg and turning into a borg cube and because Rosetta is cubical with lumps on it it looks like a borg cube and therefore Voyager has... returned, or something.
