Jebediah's Tool Shed Needed for a Contract (Barnstorming)

I have a contract that I am developing that has the following text:

Quote

There's an old tool shed near the R&D Center which is owned by Wright Aeronautical to store fuel for the aviation program. Jebediah Kerman thinks it's not only big enough to house an airplane, but even big enough to fly through it. Bill Kerman objected, Bob Kerman protested, and now Jebediah thinks we outta prove it.

He managed to convince Orville Kerman that the stunt was somehow for science, and now he has the keys to the shed. Grinning, he says he's already moved the fuel tanks to a safer location, and that we are now ready to try!

Once again I appeal to the Spacecraft Exchange to see if someone could come up with a low part count shed or barn like structure big enough to fly the stock Aeris 3A through:

- It needs to be made out of stock parts.

- It must contain a probe (stayputnik preferred)

- It must be well under 100 parts.

It doesn't have to be fancy, but to prove its barnstorminess, you will need to self certify it by barnstorming it yourself. :) Assuming your shed doesn't dance around like a jelly bean when getting near to barnstorm it, if it meets the criteria above, it should work.

Any takers? If selected, your shed will be permanently memorialized in the Giving Aircraft a Purpose contract pack (see my sig below). It will be released as part of GAP 1.1.

Ah ha!  I've been waiting for another one of these gems to come along.  What happened with the wing-suit one, is that scheduled for later development?

Anyway, I've designed a barn and tested it for you.  It uses a stayputnik as requested, and is 72 parts only.  That's about as low as I could get it without it being a) rubbish, b) too small, or c) not referencing the fuel tanks which I wanted to do.  They haven't exactly been moved to a safe location though haha!

CRAFT FILE

Hope that's a good starting point - It's just small enough to be challenging, but just big enough to be absolutely doable.  I tried from IVA, external view, slow, and at ludicrous speed.  Nothing wobbled or fell apart, and I managed to barnstorm successfully many times.  I also failed a lot, so it's a good mix...

Perfect, thanks! I'll use it. Exactly what I was looking for.

Oh, and wingsuits are scheduled for GAP 1.3 or 1.4 I think. See https://github.com/inigmatus/GAP/milestones

I tried it. The fuel tanks unfortunately are too volatile for Contract Configurator spawn placement, so I had to remove them and reinforce the bottom with a simple frame of I beams, but it spawns ok... mostly, and I was able to barnstorm a contract with it.

Ah gutted.  I thought I'd gone far enough away during testing to make it unload and reload, but maybe not..

If you need to look at a different design I can try again, to try and make "mostly" always!

It's a Contract Configurator limitation with stock somehow. Re-rooted crafts somehow lose their cohesion on Contract Configurator spawn, and thus their predictability of when and how they will spawn.

To design a Contract Configurator spawnable craft the following rules I've discovered after the fact, must be adhered to:

1. Craft must not be re-rooted at anytime.

2. Root part must be at the bottom, front, or top of the craft for easier orientation coding.

I think it was something with the probe for your shed, as either the craft at one point was either re-rooted, or the probe's location was throwing off something weird on CC spawn. Anyways, I fixed it by rebuilding from scratch a similar, but larger shed using a simple central I-beam as the root part and mirroring parts on it from there.
