Max resolution of profile pic?

I've noticed that my avatar photo from the old forums is looking a little low-res, so I'd like to re-output my vector file at an appropriate resolution. What is the maximum OR most appealing resolution for these images?

And just to verify - are PNGs ok? I can't stand JPEG artifacts in my output vector art.

EDIT: Worked something out on my own through trial and error, but still curious to see if anyone knows the defaults. Support for SVG files as avatars would really save a lot of trouble resizing.

Profile photos (avatars) are a maximum of 150px in width/height and 256kb in size. If you mean the larger cover photo on your profile, the only restriction there is a 512kb size

Hmm I see, let me look into that. Was the original picture you uploaded <512kb? (or 256kb, as the limit was recently changed)
